Plan 01
1 day in Bhopal
- 01
Day 1: Lakes, mosques and museums
Start early at the Upper Lake with a 30-minute walk along the promenade, then visit the Taj-ul-Masajid (one of the world's largest mosques) and the surrounding Shahjehanbad area. Return to the city centre for lunch and a rest. In the late afternoon, visit Bharat Bhavan or the Museum of Man (Manav Sangrahalaya), depending on your interests—both are air-conditioned and face the lake. End the day at a café or restaurant on the Upper Lake promenade as the light softens.

Plan 02
2 days in Bhopal
- 01
Day 1: Upper Lake and Nawabi architecture
Begin with a morning walk on the Upper Lake promenade, then drive to see the Taj Mahal Palace (exterior only; the interior is currently a heritage site under conservation), Shaukat Mahal and Sadar Manzil in the old city. Stop for lunch and a long rest. In the late afternoon, visit the Taj-ul-Masajid if time allows, or take a gentle walk through Chowk Bazaar for a sense of the older Bhopal. End at a lakeside restaurant.
- 02
Day 2: Sanchi day trip
Leave early for Sanchi (about 1 hour by road). Spend the morning visiting the Great Stupa (Stupa 1), Stupa 2 and the smaller stupas and monasteries scattered across the site. The site is largely in the open, so bring water, a hat and sunscreen. Visit the site museum for context. Have lunch in the small town of Sanchi, then drive back to Bhopal by late afternoon.

Pacing
Make the plan work for everyone
- The Upper Lake promenade is the safest and most pleasant place for a morning or evening walk. It is flat, open and easy on the knees.
- Book a car and driver for the whole day. It gives you a cool place to rest between sights and avoids long, hot walks.
- Plan a 2–3 hour midday rest at the hotel. Bhopal's afternoons are tiring even in winter, and the heat from March onwards is serious.
- Stay near the Upper Lake or MP Nagar rather than in the old city bazaars. The newer areas have better hotels, lifts and quieter nights.
- Museums (Bharat Bhavan, Museum of Man) are air-conditioned and comfortable. Save these for the hottest part of the day.
- Sanchi is a wonderful day trip but is open and exposed. Bring a hat, sunscreen, water and a guide; avoid peak midday heat there.
