Enter the tank from the bazaar side. You will find yourself on a stepped arcade descending to the water's edge. Look back: the balconies above frame the tank, and the geometric patterning of pillars, arches and stairs creates a visual rhythm that draws the eye deeper. If you are comfortable with the descent, take the steps slowly. They can be slippery if recent rains have filled the tank.
At the water's edge, look up: the sky above appears to shrink as the structures frame it. The architecture is designed around the water—every chamber, every window, every step relates to it. Pilgrims still bathe here; women use the reserved bathing areas; residents draw water; children play on the steps. This is not a museum but a functioning part of the city.
