Plan 01
1 day in Kasol
- 01
Day 1: River walk and Manikaran temple visit
Arrive by mid-morning and settle into your guesthouse. Have a light lunch and rest until early afternoon, then take the riverside walking trail uphill to Manikaran (roughly 45 minutes to 1 hour on foot, or a short vehicle ride if you prefer). Spend an hour visiting the hot springs area and the Ram Temple. Return to Kasol by late afternoon and have tea at one of the riverside cafes. Finish with an early dinner and an early night to help with acclimatization to the altitude.

- 02
Day 2: Valley walks or day trek preparation
Start with an early breakfast. Spend the morning on a gentle riverside walk towards Chalal or Grahan village, or rest and organize a guide if planning a longer trek from here. Have lunch and spend the afternoon at leisure—reading, writing, or visiting a local cafe to watch the river. In the late afternoon, take a short walk around the village. End with an early dinner and evening chai with locals at a guesthouse common area.

In the late afternoon, explore the opposite bank by crossing the suspension bridge to Chalal village or walk downriver towards Bhuntar for a few kilometres. Return for a simple dinner.

Day 3: Higher valley walk or short trek
Take a full-day outing with a guide to the lower reaches of Kheerganga (roughly 3–4 hours each way from Kasol; this is a moderate trek with some steep sections), or explore the Malana trail as far as Kalga village. Pack a packed lunch or eat at a small cafe in Kalga. Return to Kasol in the late afternoon. Spend the evening reflecting on the journey, perhaps with a final meal overlooking the river, before departure the next day.

Pacing
Make the plan work for everyone
- Arrive slowly: do not plan strenuous activity on day one. The altitude of 1,650 m causes breathlessness in some older travellers; spend your first day resting and walking gently.
- Manikaran visit: the walk from Kasol is uphill and takes 45–60 minutes; alternatively, arrange a car from a guesthouse. The temples themselves are on level ground and accessible, but dress modestly and remove shoes at the temple entrances (keep socks for marble floors in sun or cold).
- The main attractions here are walks, not sites: riverside paths and valley trails vary in difficulty. Choose guides who match your pace and allow frequent stops.
- Accommodation is basic: most guesthouses are budget-oriented with simple bathrooms and limited heating. Carry a warm layer, even in warm months, as evenings are cool at this altitude.
- Medical services are limited to small clinics in Kasol and Manikaran; serious issues require a trip to Bhuntar or Kullu. Note your hotel's location relative to the nearest clinic.
- The Parvati River is fast and cold: do not wade in without a local guide, even in low-water season. Water safety and hygiene are essential concerns here.
