Kempty Falls sits at the junction of the high Mussoorie ridge and the lower Doon Valley forest. The waterfall is fed by springs and snowmelt from the higher Himalayan slopes, and it is one of the few water features that justify a special trip downhill from Mussoorie. In the monsoon, when the rains are full, it is impressive. In summer, it is a cooling relief. In winter, it barely flows.
It is also a social place. Local families and school groups visit on weekends. The site has limited infrastructure, which keeps it from being overcrowded but also means you are mostly looking after yourself.

How to experience it
Drive down from Mussoorie on the Dhanolti road for about 30–45 minutes, depending on traffic. You will pass several viewpoints; stop on the return if you want photos. At the Kempty Gorge trailhead, there is basic parking and a few small shacks selling tea and snacks.
Walk down the steep path to the main falls. The descent is roughly 500 steps, stone and earth, slippery in the monsoon. The water is cold and the current is strong. If you want to bathe, test the water first and stay in the shallower pools. Changing rooms are basic or non-existent; many visitors bathe in their clothes or quick-dry wear.
The waterfall itself has several tiers. The upper tiers are narrower and faster; the lower pools are wider and deeper. Spend 2–3 hours here. The rock is slippery, so wear water shoes or good grip on your sandals. Do not attempt to dive or climb on wet rocks.
