The short answer

Best areas to stay in Mysuru

  1. 01

Palace Road and Sayyaji Rao Road area

Best for: Walking distance to the palace, bazaars and restaurants; central and lively

The most atmospheric choice, with heritage hotels, modern comfort stays and easy access to Devaraja Market. The trade-off is traffic noise and congestion on main roads. Choose a hotel with a quiet entrance or a room away from the front.

  2. 02

    Jaganmohan Palace area

Best for: Cultural-minded visitors, close to the art gallery and museums

A quieter extension of the palace neighbourhood with some heritage stays. Short auto or walk to the palace and museums.

  3. 03

    Chamundi Hill area

Best for: Temple visitors and those wanting peaceful surroundings

Fewer hotels, quieter pace, but a short auto or car ride from the city centre. Choose this if you want to stay close to the hilltop temple and miss the bazaar bustle.

  4. 04

    VV Puram and Hardings Road

Best for: Families and seniors seeking calm and space

Leafy residential areas away from the main roads, with some good hotels and restaurants. About 10–20 minutes by auto to the palace. A practical choice if tranquility matters more than walking distance.

Before you book

What to check when booking for older travellers

  • Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
  • Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
  • Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
  • Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
  • Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.

For parents and senior travellers

Comfort notes for Mysuru

  • The palace is level and has seating areas; wear comfortable shoes and move at your own pace. A guide can explain the rooms if you wish, but self-paced is fine too.
  • Chamundi Hill has vehicle access to the top; you need not climb if your knees are a concern. The temple at the summit is small and largely level.
  • Plan one major sight per morning, rest after lunch and keep evenings gentle. The pace here is naturally slower than in bigger cities.
  • Choose a hotel with lifts, near a hospital or pharmacy. C-type Bangalore hospitals have Mysuru branches if urgent care is needed.
