Plan 01

1 day in Shirdi

  1. 01

Day 1: The mandir and the town

Arrive early morning if possible. Visit the Sai Baba Samadhi Mandir at opening time (roughly 4:00 am for the early aarti, or 6:00 am for a less crowded visit). Spend at least an hour inside, observing the rituals and sitting in the courtyard if you wish. Have breakfast at a small tea shop near the temple—local favourites include upma, idli and chai. Visit the nearby Dwarakamai Mosque, where Sai Baba spent much of his life, then walk through the narrow bazaar streets to the Chavadi (Sai's evening resting place). If time and energy allow, visit the Gurusthan or a local ashram for meditation or a rest. Return to the mandir for the evening aarti (roughly 6:00–6:30 pm), then have dinner and depart, or rest for the night.

Plan 02

2 days in Shirdi

  1. 01

    Day 1: The mandir experience

Arrive by early morning or late evening the previous day. Visit the Sai Baba Samadhi Mandir during the early morning aarti for the most contemplative atmosphere. Spend time sitting in the courtyard and attending the worship. Have breakfast in the bazaar. In the late morning, rest in your accommodation or a quiet spot. Visit Dwarakamai Mosque in the afternoon, then spend time at the Chavadi or walk through the town's smaller temples (Khandoba, Maruti). Return to the mandir for the evening aarti, then have dinner and rest.

  2. 02

Day 2: Quieter spaces and surroundings

Begin with a gentle morning walk or meditation at a local ashram. Visit the Shirdi Sai Museum to learn more about Sai Baba's life and teachings. Spend time at the Gurusthan, a park-like setting near the temple complex. If interested in nature, walk to the nearby Ghodegaon Lake or take a short drive to the surrounding agricultural villages. Visit the temple one last time in the late afternoon or evening, then depart or head towards Nashik, Aurangabad or Prayagraj Mukti Mandap (a nearby spiritual centre).

Pacing

Make the plan work for everyone

  • Visit the mandir during the early morning aarti (around 4:00–5:00 am) or late afternoon (around 4:00–5:00 pm), when it is calmer than midday. Avoid the peak crowds of weekends and festival days if possible.
  • The mandir courtyard is mostly level, but the inner sanctum involves stairs. If mobility is limited, sit in the outer courtyard or use the help of temple staff, who are accustomed to assisting older visitors.
  • Stay near the railway station or in a quieter ashram rather than immediately next to the crowded mandir bazaar. A 10-minute auto ride is worth the peace and space.
  • Plan one main temple visit in the morning and rest during the midday heat. The evening aarti is peaceful and beautiful; attend that instead of forcing yourself to stay all afternoon.
  • Bring a small cushion or thick scarf to sit on in the courtyard; the floor can be hard and sometimes wet from flower offerings and water. Wear comfortable shoes that are easy to remove (there is a shoe stand at the mandir).
  • Carry water, a hat or umbrella, and any necessary medications. The bazaar shops are small and may not have what you need. The nearest hospital is several kilometres away; note the location before you start.
