Plan 01

1 day in South Goa

  1. 01

Day 1: Colva beach, shack lunch and backwater walk

Spend the morning at Colva Beach, one of South Goa's largest and friendliest beaches, with a long stretch of sand, fishing boats and morning vendors. A shack lunch here is a South Goa ritual—fish curry rice, grilled prawns and fresh lime soda, eaten with your feet in the sand. In the late afternoon, take a short drive or scooter ride to a backwater creek near Colva or Benaulim for a boat ride through mangrove forests and past fishing villages. End with sunset tea at a small café in the old town.

Plan 02

2 days in South Goa

  1. 01

Day 1: Colva beach, heritage and a backwater evening

Start at Colva Beach with breakfast at a beachfront shack or café. Spend the morning swimming and resting. Have a late lunch at a beachside seafood restaurant. In the afternoon, walk through the old village streets around the Church of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception at Colva, then take a short boat ride through the backwaters and creeks that feed into the Arabian Sea. Finish with dinner at a beachfront place and a walk along the beach at sunset.

  2. 02

Day 2: Palolem Beach and Patnem

Drive south to Palolem Beach, the showpiece of South Goa, cradled between two forested headlands. Spend the morning swimming, and lunch at one of the many shacks along the water. In the afternoon, walk north along the beach to quieter Patnem Beach, where you can rest under coconut palms with far fewer tourists. Visit the small Canacona town market if you want souvenirs or local handicrafts. Return to your base for dinner.

Plan 03

3 days in South Goa

  1. 01

Day 1: Colva, backwaters and old Portuguese village

Anchor yourself at Colva Beach for breakfast and a morning swim. Have lunch at a beachfront shack. In the afternoon, visit the Church of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception and walk the quiet lanes of old Colva village, where Portuguese-era houses with red tile roofs still stand. Take an evening boat ride through the backwater creeks and mangrove forests that frame the coast. End with a seafood dinner overlooking the beach.

  2. 02

Day 2: Benaulim to Palolem, beaches and villages

Drive south to Benaulim Beach, quieter than Colva and fringed with coconut palms. Spend the morning there or at nearby Betalbatim. Stop at the Church of Our Lady of Mercy in Benaulim village. Have a long lunch. Continue to Palolem Beach, where you can rest and swim until sunset. Walk the promenade and explore the small Canacona town. Dinner at one of Palolem's many restaurants.

  3. 03

Day 3: Southern beaches and Galgibag, or a rest day

Take an early drive or ride to Galgibag Beach (Turtle Beach), about 7 km south of Palolem, known for Olive Ridley turtle nesting. The beach is quieter and more dramatic, with caves and rock formations. Alternatively, spend the day resting at Palolem with a massage or spa treatment, beach games and simple meals. Either way, leave time for a sunset and a final walk along the water before heading back to your accommodation.

Pacing

Make the plan work for everyone

  • Beaches here are flat and easy to walk on. Colva and Benaulim have sloped beach accesses; Palolem's beach is reached by a steep path, so take the north access at Patnem or ask locals for an easier route.
  • Shack meals are simple, cooked fresh and generally safe. Stick to cooked seafood and rice rather than raw salads. Water and ice are usually filtered; ask to be sure.
  • Afternoons are very hot and humid. A midday rest of 1–2 hours is normal and essential. Beaches and shops close or slow down 1 pm to 4 pm.
  • Hire a car and driver for day trips to Galgibag or distant beaches. A driver is also useful if mobility is limited; roads are not always smooth.
  • Medical care in Colva and Margao is reasonable; pharmacies are easy to find. Larger hospitals are in Margao. Note the location before you start sightseeing.
  • Guesthouses are often simple, one-story buildings, but some have lifts and accessible ground-floor rooms. Ask for these when booking.
