Plan 01
1 day in Visakhapatnam
- 01
Day 1: Beaches, a hilltop park and a museum
Begin at RK Beach (Ramakrishna Beach) for an early walk, seeing the Beach Road promenade and fishermen at work. Visit the INS Kursura Submarine Museum at Beach Road, a first-of-its-kind museum in Asia where you can walk through a retired submarine. Around late morning, head to Kailasagiri, either by car up the hill or by rope way if you prefer not to climb. Spend time at the hilltop park, enjoying views over the city and Bay of Bengal; the park has a mini train if walking is tiring. Return to Beach Road for lunch and an afternoon rest. In the late afternoon, visit Visakha Museum at Beach Road, or simply walk along the promenade as the light softens. Finish with dinner at a seafood restaurant near the beach.

Plan 02
2 days in Visakhapatnam
- 01
Day 1: Beaches and the hilltop park
Start early at RK Beach with a walk along Beach Road, watching the port activity and morning light. Visit the INS Kursura Submarine Museum, which is compact and usually quiet in the morning. Have a light lunch, then take the rope way or car to Kailasagiri for the afternoon. Explore the 380-acre park, ride the mini train if you like, and see the views over the city and sea. Return to Beach Road in the late afternoon and walk the promenade as the light changes. End with a casual dinner at Masala Chowk near Beach Road or a seafood meal overlooking the beach.
- 02
Day 2: Temples, museums and a day trip
Visit Simhachalam Temple in the morning, an 11th-century temple on a hill overlooking the city. It is one of Andhra Pradesh's richest temples and the views from the approach are excellent. Return to the city for lunch, then either visit Visakha Museum and the TU 142 Aircraft Museum at RK Beach (both modest, free or inexpensive entries), or take a half-day trip north to Bheemili Beach and the Thotlakonda ruins, an ancient Buddhist site about 20 kilometres away. If energy allows and traffic cooperates, stop at Kailasagiri again for sunset. End the day with a slow dinner and an evening walk along Beach Road.

Plan 03
3 days in Visakhapatnam
- 01
Day 1: Beaches, museums and the rope way
Morning walk at RK Beach along Beach Road, seeing the port and the rhythm of a working harbour. Visit the INS Kursura Submarine Museum and Visakha Museum at Beach Road (allow two hours). Have lunch and rest through the heat of midday. In the late afternoon, take the rope way up to Kailasagiri or climb if you prefer, and spend time on the hilltop watching the city below and the sea. Return and walk Beach Road in the evening light, ending with dinner overlooking the water.
- 02
Day 2: Temples and hilltop views
Visit Simhachalam Temple early, while it is cooler and less crowded. Spend time at the temple and enjoy the views over the city from the approach. Return to the centre for lunch and a rest. In the late afternoon, if you have not done so yet, visit Tenneti Park, a smaller park with views, or the TU 142 Aircraft Museum at RK Beach. Alternatively, visit the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park if you are travelling with children. End with a casual dinner in the old town area or near your hotel.
- 03
Day 3: A day trip into the Eastern Ghats
Drive north to Araku Valley, a scenic hill station about 100–120 kilometres away, roughly 3–4 hours by road depending on traffic. Stop at Bheemili Beach and Thotlakonda (an ancient Buddhist site) on the way if time allows, or on the way back. Araku has coffee plantations, a waterfall and a cooler climate than the coast. If Araku feels too far, stay closer and visit Yarada Beach to the south (about 20 kilometres), or Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary for a short trek. Return to Visakhapatnam in the late afternoon and end with a quiet evening rest.

Pacing
Make the plan work for everyone
- Kailasagiri is best reached by rope way if climbing is difficult; the park itself is level once you are at the top, with shaded seating and views. Avoid the peak afternoon heat by going early or late.
- Beach Road is a flat, level walk suitable for a slow afternoon stroll, especially in the late afternoon when the light is soft and crowds are less. The promenade has benches and a sea breeze.
- The INS Kursura Submarine Museum has steps to enter the submarine, so if climbing is an issue, the entry hall has photographs and displays of the vessel. The museum is compact and air-conditioned.
- Simhachalam Temple involves climbing a hill, and the temple floors are marble. Wear non-slip shoes or socks and go early when it is cooler. The views from the temple are worth the climb if you can manage it with a rest stop.
- Hire a car with a driver for the day. It gives you a cool place to rest between sights and avoids long walks in the heat. A day's hire costs roughly ₹800–₹1,500 depending on the car.
- Stick to bottled or filtered water. Pharmacies are common; note the nearest one to your hotel. Hospitals are well-equipped; Andhra Medical College and private hospitals are accessible from most areas.
