How to experience it
The temple stands seven storeys high with a distinctive red-stone facade. Approach through the winding bazaar lanes early in the morning when the streets are quieter. The outer courtyard is paved and surrounded by priest's chambers and stalls. At the center stands the sanctum, where the Govind Dev idol, a black marble image of Krishna as a child, is installed.
Darshan is continuous, with devotees approaching the shrine regularly. If the queue is long, you can stand at the back of the courtyard and see the idol from a distance, or wait a few minutes for an opening. After darshan, you may receive prasad or be blessed by a priest. The temple also rings a large bell at specific times during the day.
If you have time, climb the inner stairs to see the upper floors and galleries; some offer views over Vrindavan. The temple's library sometimes has information in Hindi and English about the temple's history.
