Key hubs

Agra airport and railway station

Nearest airport
Agra Cantt. Airport (Kheria) is small; most visitors fly into Delhi and drive roughly 3–4 hours by road to Agra, or take a train.
Railway station
Agra Fort Railway Station (the main station) is in the old city; Agra Cantt. is on the southern edge. Trains connect to Delhi (2–3 hours), Jaipur and other cities.
Getting around
A private car and driver is easiest for the Taj Mahal and outlying sites. The old city is walkable but congested; autos and e-rickshaws work for short trips.

How to reach Agra by air

Agra's own Kheria airport has very limited flights; most visitors fly into Delhi (DEL) and continue by road, about 3-4 hours (200 km) via the Yamuna Expressway.

How to reach Agra by train

Agra Cantt and Agra Fort are the main stations, with frequent trains from Delhi (2-3 hours), Jaipur and other cities; the Gatimaan Express is the fastest link from Delhi.

How to reach Agra by road

The Yamuna Expressway connects Delhi to Agra in about 3-4 hours; Agra also sits on national highway routes linking it to Jaipur and Gwalior.

Getting around Agra

A private car and driver is easiest for the Taj Mahal and outlying sites; the old city is walkable but congested, with autos and e-rickshaws for short hops.

Easy transfers to and in Agra

  • Visit the Taj Mahal before 7 a.m. to avoid crowds and heat. Use the wheelchair-accessible ramp on the south side if needed, and rest in the shaded arcades inside.
  • Fatehpur Sikri is very exposed and hot in the afternoon. Start early, carry water and a hat, and rest in the shaded Jama Masjid. Skip it if mobility is a serious concern; the uneven ground and distances can be exhausting.
  • Plan one major sight in the morning, rest at midday (absolutely essential—the heat is severe), and a gentle evening plan. Hire a car and driver for the full day rather than relying on tuk-tuks; it gives you a cool place to rest and avoids long walks.
  • Choose a hotel on The Mall Road or central Agra rather than Taj Ganj. You will need quietness and car access more than a pre-dawn walk to the Taj's gate.
  • Carry water, a hat, sunscreen and socks for temple and mosque floors. Marble can be very hot underfoot, and the noon sun reflecting off white marble is intense.
  • Hospitals are on The Mall Road and near Agra Cantt. Note the nearest clinic to your hotel, and carry copies of important prescriptions.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
