Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD), about 8–10 km south of the city center; roughly 20–30 minutes by road to the city, traffic dependent
Railway station
Ahmedabad Junction (AMD) is the main station, well-connected by Indian railways. The station is about 3–5 km from the old city and central areas.
Getting around
The old city is best navigated by car and driver or on foot for short stretches. Autos and app cabs work for longer distances. A private car for a full day is a good investment, especially if travelling with elders.

Easy transfers to and in Ahmedabad

  • Hire a car and driver for the whole day. It allows rest between sights, avoids long walks and provides escape from heat and crowds.
  • Museums (Calico, Auto, City) are air-conditioned and largely level, making them ideal afternoon breaks in a sightseeing day.
  • Stay on Ashram Road or in Navrangpura for easy access, calm surroundings and proximity to restaurants and hospitals.
  • Carry water, a hat, sunscreen and comfortable walking shoes. Marble and stone in temples and havelis can be very hot underfoot.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
