Easy transfers to and in Chitrakoot

  • Hire a car and driver for the day rather than relying on autos. Temple sites are spread out, and you will need a comfortable place to rest between visits.
  • Plan one major temple in the morning, lunch and a long rest in the afternoon, and a gentle sunset visit in the evening. The parikrama walk around Kamadgiri is optional; you can see the temple by car and a short walk instead.
  • The Kamadgiri parikrama is 5–6 km and takes 1.5–2 hours with rests. Older travellers may prefer to walk partway (20–30 minutes) from the car park at the summit, or skip it and visit the temple by vehicle.
  • Main temple areas have steps and uneven ground. Wear sturdy walking shoes, carry water and a walking stick if helpful, and do not hesitate to sit and rest between visits.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
