The site comprises a small Shiva temple, a large stone tank fed by a natural spring, and gardens planted with cardamom and coffee. The spring water is believed by Hindus to be the birth of the Kaveri River, India's major river of the south. Walk to the tank, which is the visual centre of the place, drink from the spring if you wish (it is clean and cold), and sit for 10–15 minutes looking south toward the plains of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, which fall away sharply from the ridge.
The temple is a simple structure; dress respectfully and remove shoes at the entrance. Return to Madikeri by the same road. Many visitors combine Talakaveri with Bhagamandala (15 minutes away) or the nearby Omkareshwara Temple.
