Why it matters
Why Paradise Beach is worth your time
Paradise Beach is sometimes called the most beautiful of Gokarna's beaches because of its remoteness and the demanding hike required to reach it. It has become a bucket-list destination for backpackers seeking an off-the-beaten-path experience without compromising on natural beauty or adventure. Unlike Om, it remains almost completely undeveloped, the reward for physical effort and careful planning. The pristine beach and the sense of having truly earned your destination make it profoundly memorable.
Plan your visit
How to experience it
Start from Om Beach at dawn, roughly 6 am. The first part of the trail to Half Moon is familiar. From Half Moon, continue south along a narrower, rockier path that climbs and descends around several headlands. The trail becomes more of a scramble over rocks and rough ground. It takes roughly 1–1.5 hours from Half Moon to Paradise Beach.
The beach itself is small, crescent and often empty. There are occasional huts or basic structures, but assume nothing is available. Swim in the clear water, rest on the sand, explore the rock formations. The sense of having reached somewhere special, somewhere most tourists do not go, is the whole point.
Return the same way before 2 pm so you have daylight for the walk back. The trail is exposed to sun and heat, and there is no shelter or water on it. Most visitors do a day trip rather than staying overnight.
Plan with confidence
Small decisions that make the visit easier.
- Start very early to have maximum daylight
- Bring at least 2 litres of water; the trail is hot and exposed
- Wear sturdy hiking boots with grip
- Bring high-energy snacks; no food is available
- Sun protection and a hat are essential
- Do not attempt in poor visibility or rough seas
- Tell someone your plans and expected return time
