   Day 1: Gondola and meadow walk

   Arrive early and head straight to the Gulmarg Gondola. Buy a return ticket and ride to the Intermediate Station (check if the upper section is running; it is sometimes closed due to weather or maintenance). From the top, walk a short distance across the meadow for views, or simply sit and absorb the landscape. Descend by late morning and spend the afternoon on a leisurely walk through the town's meadow area, following one of the low-level paths or simply walking across the open grass. Stop at a local restaurant or café for lunch and an evening tea. If energy permits, visit a nearby viewpoint such as Concrete Point for sunset, roughly a 30-minute drive from town.

2 days in Gulmarg

1. 01

   Day 1: Gondola, meadow and evening stroll

   Ride the Gulmarg Gondola to Intermediate Station in the morning, and if the upper section is open, take the second cable car to the Top Station for the full panorama. Spend time on the upper meadow, walk back down or take the cable car down. Return to town for lunch. In the afternoon, walk gently through the meadow or visit Concrete Point for views over the Pir Panjal. Spend the evening browsing the small bazaar near the town centre or resting at your hotel.

   Day 2: Nearby excursion and forest walk

   Drive to Aharbal, a small waterfall and forest reserve roughly 20–30 kilometres away, and walk among the pine trees and streams. Return by midday. Alternatively, drive to Khilanmarg, a meadow viewpoint above Gulmarg, for a picnic and panoramic views (acclimatisation and a walking pace suited to the altitude are essential). Spend the evening relaxing, packing and preparing for departure.

3 days in Gulmarg

1. 01

   Day 1: Gondola and high meadow

   Dedicate the morning to the Gulmarg Gondola, riding to the Top Station if open and spending time on the high meadow. Walk among the meadow flowers (in season) or simply enjoy the air and quiet. Return to town for a long lunch and rest. In the afternoon, visit Concrete Point or another low-altitude viewpoint for sunset.

2. 02

   Day 2: Forest and waterfall day trip

   Drive to Aharbal waterfall, a small cascade set in dense forest roughly 20–30 kilometres away. Walk through the pine forest, listen to the stream and enjoy the greenery. Pack a picnic lunch or eat at the basic facility there. Return to Gulmarg by evening and rest.

3. 03

   Day 3: Khilanmarg or a gentle local walk

   If you are feeling energetic and have acclimatised well, drive up to Khilanmarg, a high meadow above Gulmarg, for more expansive views and a walk. Alternatively, spend a quiet morning walking the meadow at your own pace, visiting any sights you may have missed, shopping for local goods, and enjoying a final meal in town before departure.

Make the plan work for everyone

• Check the Gulmarg Gondola status before visiting. The upper section is sometimes closed due to weather, maintenance or low visibility; in winter, cloud cover is common. Call ahead or check the operator's status for the day.
• The altitude at Gulmarg town is roughly 2,650 metres, and the Top Station of the gondola is at roughly 3,650 metres. Consult your doctor before visiting if you have heart, respiratory or blood-pressure conditions. Ascend slowly, drink water, avoid heavy exertion for the first day, and consider avoiding the Top Station if you feel unwell.
• Summer (June to September) is far more comfortable for older travellers than winter. Daytime temperatures are pleasant, skies are often clear, and the gondola is reliably open. Winter is cold (often below freezing), cloudy and snowy; the town is quieter but less accessible.
• The meadow is flat and easy to walk on. Most of Gulmarg town is walkable at a gentle pace. If you cannot handle the altitude or do not want to trek, riding the gondola and sitting on the upper meadow is a complete, rewarding experience.
• Hire a car and driver for your entire stay and for any excursions to Khilanmarg, Aharbal or other viewpoints. Roads are winding, and a familiar driver avoids stress.
• Ensure your hotel has easy car access and is close to restaurants or has meal service. The town is small and sometimes lacking in late-opening eateries.
