Gwalior Airport (GWL) has daily flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and other major cities, about 15–20 minutes from the centre; Agra, Indore or Delhi airports offer wider connections if needed.

Gwalior Junction (GWL) is a major North Central Railway junction with over 180 trains a day, including frequent services to Delhi, Agra, Bhopal and Indore.
How to reach Gwalior by road
The Agra–Mumbai highway (NH3/NH44) and NH75 pass through Gwalior, linking it to Agra, Jhansi and Mathura; the Gwalior–Agra Greenfield expressway shortens the Agra run.

For parents and senior travellers
Easy transfers to and in Gwalior
- The fort involves real climbing and uneven, sometimes steep surfaces. Hire a car and driver to drop you at the top (cars go up by the western Urvai Gate road) rather than walking up from the base. Rest frequently on the stone benches inside.
- Jai Vilas Palace is air-conditioned and level; it is a good indoor rest from the sun. Teli Ka Mandir and the Sas Bahu temples are both on the fort plateau and reachable by car, so they are less strenuous than walking the ramparts.
- Choose a hotel with a lift and easy car access. Lashkar's charm comes with narrow lanes; if mobility is a concern, the fort-road area or City Centre may be easier.
- Carry water, a hat, sunscreen and socks for temple floors (marble can be very hot in the afternoon). Pharmacies are easy to find; note the nearest one to your hotel.
- Hire a car and driver for the full day rather than using autos between sites. It gives you a cool place to rest and avoids the stress of finding transport.
- Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
- Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
- Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
