Drive from Jim Corbett (Ramnagar) northward towards Almora, then branch west to Nainital. The road winds upward and takes roughly two hours. You emerge into a town sprawled around an oval lake surrounded by forested hills. Park near the lake promenade (Mall Road) and walk around the water's edge. Benches allow you to sit and watch the reflection and bird activity.
Option 1: Walk around the full lake (roughly 6 km, takes 2–3 hours). Option 2: Sit and rest at one or more of the lakeside cafes and restaurants. Option 3: Take a boat on the lake for 30 minutes to an hour. Option 4: Ride the cable car up to Tiffin Top (Snow View) for a view over the lake and mountains.
The town has shops, restaurants and hotels. Browse the mall-like streets if you want shopping or a nice meal. Return to Jim Corbett in the late afternoon to avoid mountain night driving, or stay overnight if time allows.
