For parents and senior travellers
Easy transfers to and in Ooty
- Ooty is one of the easiest hill stations for older travellers because altitude sickness is rare at 2,240 m and the cool climate aids mobility. That said, plan one activity per morning or afternoon, and rest in between.
- Hire a car with driver for the full day or multi-day stay. It provides a cool place to rest, avoids parking hunts, and allows flexible timing at each stop.
- Stay on the lake edge or Elk Hill slopes for access to main sights. Central areas have narrow lanes and steep slopes; check your hotel's car access and lift availability carefully.
- Carry a light shawl or jacket even in the daytime; Ooty can feel cool, especially if you rest in shaded areas. Sunscreen and a hat are still needed for exposed spots.
- Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
