Key hubs

Rishikesh airport and railway station

Nearest airport
Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi is roughly 220–240 km away and 5–6 hours by road, traffic dependent. Some travellers fly into Dehradun instead (about 25 km; roughly 1 hour by road).
Railway station
Rishikesh station (and the newer Yog Nagari Rishikesh station) are on the town side of the river; trains run to Haridwar, Delhi and elsewhere. Local taxis and autos connect the stations to hotels and ghats.
Getting around
The town is compact and mostly walkable, especially along the river. Autos and app cabs cover the sprawl. Ram Jhula and Janki Setu are the working footbridges between the banks; the old Laxman Jhula has been closed since 2022, and its replacement, Bajrang Setu, was not formally open as of April 2026.

Well linked by national highway to Haridwar and Dehradun; onward roads towards Badrinath and other Himalayan towns are narrower and slower.

Easy transfers to and in Rishikesh

  • Hire a car and driver for day trips to nearby Haridwar (25 km) or to visit temples further upriver; walking in the monsoon (July–September) brings landslide risks on hill roads.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
