- Tirupati Junction is the main station, well-connected to Chennai, Bangalore and other cities. Some trains also stop at Renigunta station, used for onward transport to Tirumala.

- A private car and driver is easiest for visiting Tirumala and nearby temples. Shared tempo (minibus) services run from the city to Tirumala base; auto-rickshaws work well within Tirupati town. Tirumala is 12 km uphill; most pilgrims use the free bus service from the base, or hired jeeps if mobility is a concern.

A private car and driver is the easiest way to manage Tirumala and nearby temples; shared tempo services and the free pilgrim bus run from the city up to Tirumala, with hired jeeps available for those with mobility concerns.
For parents and senior travellers
Easy transfers to and in Tirupati
- The marble floors of temples are very hot underfoot, especially in the afternoon. Wear socks and sunscreen, carry water. Never visit temples during peak heat (11 a.m.–3 p.m.) unless absolutely necessary.
- Stairs at the temple can be steep; the main approach has many steps. Use the vehicle parking area and enter from the car drop area if this is an issue. Ask for assistance from the temple volunteers (they are trained for this).
- Hire a car and driver for the 2–3 days, or rely on your hotel's pre-arranged transport. Walking between sights is not recommended in the heat; autos and tempos are crowded.
- Hospitals in Tirupati are good and used to elderly pilgrims. The largest, including SVIMS and the government Ruia hospital, are on and near Alipiri Road. Note the location of your nearest hospital or medical clinic before arrival.
- Carry a doctor's letter if you have heart conditions or mobility concerns; it can help at the temple's VIP queues or with arrangements for a shorter wait (facilities exist, but you must ask at the temple information counter).
- Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
- Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
- Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
