Plan 01

1 day in Vrindavan

  1. 01

Day 1: Dawn at the ghat, temples until noon

Arrive early and begin at Kesi Ghat or Vishram Ghat as the sun rises, watching pilgrims bathe and priests perform rituals. Walk to Banke Bihari Temple for the morning aarti (roughly 7–8 a.m.), and be ready for a crowd but also for the temple's spirit. From there, head to ISKCON Vrindavan (Sri Sri Radha Govinda Mandir) for its calmer atmosphere, then visit Govind Dev Ji Temple nearby. Rest through the hot afternoon at your hotel or a café. If energy remains, visit Prem Mandir in the late afternoon for the evening aarti and its illuminated marble spires. End with a simple meal and an early rest.

Plan 02

2 days in Vrindavan

  1. 01

Day 1: Ghats and central temples

Start before sunrise at Kesi Ghat or Vishram Ghat, watching the Yamuna rituals and local life. Visit Banke Bihari Temple early for the aarti, then take a long walk through the older lanes towards Radha-Raman Temple and Jaipur Temple, both calmer and less crowded. Rest after lunch. In the late afternoon, visit Prem Mandir for its evening aarti and beautiful gardens, then stroll the quieter eastern ghats at dusk.

  2. 02

Day 2: ISKCON, a day trip or a deeper temple morning

Spend the morning at ISKCON Vrindavan, which has a museum, a shop, and a more modern aesthetic. Or take a day trip to Mathura (40 minutes away) to visit the Krishna Janmabhoomi temple, the Kans Quila ruins and the Government Museum. Alternatively, visit the smaller nearby temples such as Radha Ballabh and Banasthali if you prefer a contemplative day within Vrindavan. Return for an evening aarti and dinner.

Plan 03

3 days in Vrindavan

  1. 01

Day 1: Yamuna ghats and the western temples

Begin at dawn at Kesi Ghat, watching pilgrims and rituals. Walk to the nearby Vishram Ghat, then explore the older temple lanes: Banke Bihari Temple and its aarti, Radha-Raman Temple, Jaipur Temple, and the quieter lanes around them. Rest after lunch. In the evening, visit Prem Mandir for its sunset aarti and marble gardens.

  2. 02

Day 2: ISKCON, Govind Dev Ji and a Mathura day trip

Spend the morning at ISKCON Vrindavan for its museum, bookshop and calm courtyard. Visit Govind Dev Ji Temple and its associated gardens, then drive to Mathura (40 minutes) to visit Krishna Janmabhoomi, the Kans Quila and the Government Museum of antiquities. Return to Vrindavan for an evening temple visit or ghat walk.

  3. 03

Day 3: Eastern ghats, smaller temples and a sunset finale

Take a morning walk on the eastern bank of the Yamuna, visiting Vishnupad Ghat and the quieter southern stretch of the town. Visit Seva Kunja or Radha Kund if you want a more meditative experience away from the main temple crowds. Spend the afternoon reading or resting. End with an evening aarti at your favourite temple and a final riverside walk at sunset.

Pacing

Make the plan work for everyone

  • Plan your temple visits around aartis—they are the peak times, when crowds are largest and the energy is most intense, but also when the temple experience is most vibrant. If large crowds are difficult, visit the same temple outside aarti times for a quieter experience.
  • Wear comfortable shoes that can be removed easily, and carry socks for temple floors, which can be cold or hot depending on the time of day. Many temples do not allow shoes inside, and some have steep stairs.
  • Book a hotel with a lift if climbing stairs is a concern. Many smaller dharamshalas and heritage hotels do not have lifts, and temples themselves involve ascending inside.
  • Hire a car and driver for the day, even if distances are short. This gives you a cool place to rest between temples and avoids the fatigue of walking and navigating narrow lanes.
  • Visit temples in the early morning, before 8 a.m., when it is cooler and less crowded. The evening aartis (5–8 p.m.) are vibrant but very busy.
  • Eat light meals and stay hydrated, especially if you are not accustomed to vegetarian temple food or to the pace of devotional activity.
