How to experience it
Hampi Bazaar runs from the Krishna Temple gateway (now an arch of ruined pillars) northward toward the town proper. The street is lined with ruined arcades on both sides, once merchant stalls and shops. Modern shops and restaurants now occupy the spaces under and around the ruins. Walk from the gateway northward, taking time to look at the carved pillars and arches, many still intact and detailed.
The gateway itself—the remains of the Krishna Temple facade—is the most photographed structure in Hampi. Standing in the archway and looking down the bazaar gives you a sense of the 16th-century street. Spend time sitting at a café, watching traffic and locals, or buying small crafts and souvenirs from the modern vendors.
The bazaar connects to several temples and landmarks. From the north end, you can walk to Virupaksha Temple or head east toward the Royal Enclosure.
