Best for: Pilgrims, temple visitors and those who want to be at the heart of the ruins
Good to know: Close to the main temples and bazaar. Guesthouses and heritage stays dot the narrow lanes. Trade-offs: the lanes are congested, water supply can be erratic, and some accommodations are basic. Ask about water, electricity and bathroom facilities before booking. Very atmospheric early in the morning.

Best for: Travellers seeking quiet and views over the ruins
Good to know: Quieter than town center, with some small resorts and homestays with views of boulders and temples. Further from immediate restaurants and shops, so arrange meals in advance or be ready to ride into town. Good for sunset and sunrise photography.

Best for: Better facilities, more restaurants, train access
Good to know: The nearest proper town with hotels, hospitals, ATMs and varied food. Roughly 30–45 minutes by auto or bike to central Hampi temples. Useful if you want comfort and town amenities, but less immersive than staying in Hampi itself.

Best for: A quieter, village-pace alternative with its own heritage
Good to know: A small farming village with stepped ghats and some guesthouses, accessed by coracle (round boat) or footbridge. Very quiet and pastoral, with early morning views of the river. Needs more planning for meals and sightseeing, as sites are further away.
