App cabs and autos work well in the city, one metro line serves some old-city routes, and a private car and driver is the easiest way to reach the forts.
For parents and senior travellers
Easy transfers to and in Jaipur
- Choose a hotel with lifts and easy car access. C-Scheme and Civil Lines are generally easier than the narrow lanes of the old city.
- Hire a car and driver for the whole day rather than hailing autos between sights. It gives you a cool place to rest and avoids long walks to parking.
- Carry water, a hat, sunscreen and socks for temple floors. Marble can be very hot underfoot in the afternoon.
- Hospitals and pharmacies are concentrated around C-Scheme and MI Road. Note the nearest one to your hotel before you start sightseeing.
- Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
- Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
- Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
