Plan 01

1 day in Jaipur

  1. 01

Day 1: Amber morning, old city afternoon

Leave early for Amber Fort so you are at the gate at opening time, and take a jeep up to Jaleb Chowk rather than walking the ramp. Spend about two and a half hours inside, then walk a few minutes into Amer village to see the Panna Meena ka Kund stepwell. Stop at the Jal Mahal promenade on the drive back for photographs. Have lunch and, if you are travelling with parents, rest for an hour. In the late afternoon, visit City Palace, walk next door to Jantar Mantar if the heat allows, and end with the Hawa Mahal facade as the light softens. Finish with an evening walk through Johari Bazaar and a sweet stop at Laxmi Misthan Bhandar.

Plan 02

2 days in Jaipur

  1. 01

Day 1: The old city on foot

Start at dawn with the Hawa Mahal facade from across the road, then go inside before the upper levels get crowded. Walk to City Palace at opening time for the textile gallery, the silver Gangajali urns and the painted Pritam Niwas gates, then move to Jantar Mantar with a guide before the courtyard heats up. Lunch and rest through the hottest hours. In the late afternoon, visit Govind Dev Ji temple for the evening aarti if you would like to see the city's devotional life, then browse Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar, with a kachori or sweet stop along the way.

  2. 02

    Day 2: Amer and a lit-up evening

Drive out early to Amber Fort and give it a full morning, then see Panna Meena ka Kund and, if you like textiles, the Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing in Amer village. Stop at Jal Mahal on the way back. Spend the afternoon indoors at Albert Hall Museum, which is cool, level and easy for all ages. In the evening, either drive up to Nahargarh Fort for sunset over the city or stay near Ram Niwas Garden to see Albert Hall illuminated, followed by dinner at Masala Chowk.

Plan 03

3 days in Jaipur

  1. 01

    Day 1: The old city

Begin with the Hawa Mahal facade at sunrise and a quick visit inside, then walk to City Palace and Jantar Mantar for the rest of the morning. Take a long lunch and rest. In the late afternoon, visit Govind Dev Ji temple, then walk through Johari Bazaar for jewellery and textiles as the lights come on. End with sweets or a light dinner in the old city.

  2. 02

Day 2: Amer, Jaigarh and a ridge sunset

Be at Amber Fort at opening time and spend the morning there, then see Panna Meena ka Kund and the Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing in Amer village. After a long, unhurried lunch, drive up to Jaigarh Fort to see the Jaivana cannon and the view down onto Amber. Travellers with energy can continue along the ridge road to Nahargarh Fort for sunset; those who have had enough can stop at Jal Mahal and head back.

  3. 03

Day 3: Temples, crafts and a modern Jaipur evening

Start early at Galta Ji to see pilgrims at the sacred kunds, using the lower eastern gate if mobility is a concern, and stop at Sisodia Rani garden on the same side of the city. In the late morning, head to Albert Hall Museum as an indoor break. After lunch, visit Sanganer to watch block printing, then stop at Patrika Gate on the way back. In the evening, choose between the calm of Birla Mandir and Moti Dungri Ganesh temple at dusk, a film at Raj Mandir Cinema, or a folk-dinner evening at Chokhi Dhani.

Pacing

Make the plan work for everyone

  • Heat: From April to June, plan outdoor sights for the first three hours after sunrise and rest through the afternoon. Even in winter, the midday sun on Amber's ramparts is stronger than it feels.
  • Getting around: The Metro helps on its east–west line, including stops near the old city, but most visitors rely on app cabs and autos. Agree the auto fare before setting off, or use a cab app for longer trips such as Amber.
  • Walking: Old-city distances look short on the map, but traffic, crossings and crowded pavements slow you down. Comfortable closed shoes are better than sandals on uneven stone.
  • Money: UPI and cards work in most established shops and restaurants. Keep some cash for autos, small stalls and temple offerings. Get a proper bill for any high-value purchase.
  • Dress: Light cotton suits most of the year, with a warm layer for winter mornings and evenings. Cover shoulders and knees at temples, the mosque and the church.
  • Bargaining: Haggling is normal at street stalls, not in fixed-price emporiums or restaurants. Judge the quality first, then the price, and don't assume something is local because it's sold in Jaipur.
