Getting around Jim Corbett
A private jeep with an experienced naturalist-driver is essential for safaris and park sightseeing; most lodges arrange this, and app cabs do not operate inside the park.
For parents and senior travellers
Easy transfers to and in Jim Corbett
- Safaris require early 4–5 a.m. departures and bumpy jeep rides on unpaved roads for 4–5 hours. Check your fitness level and discuss with your doctor before booking. Consider a jeep with better suspension and padding.
- Choose a lodge with a trained naturalist driver (many speak English), not just any jeep hire. A good guide makes the experience richer and the ride less tiring.
- Book safaris in Bijrani or Jhirna if roads are less rough. Dhikala is famous but has the most challenging terrain. Ask your lodge which zone is best for comfort.
- Carry a cushion or lumbar support for jeep rides, sunscreen, a wide hat and insect repellent. Mornings are cold; bring a cardigan or fleece jacket.
- Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
- Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
- Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
