For parents and senior travellers
Easy transfers to and in Katra
- Hire a porter if the walk worries you. Local porters (₹500–₹1,000) carry light bags and let you focus on the climb. Several run from the ropeway base and the town center.
- Wear good walking boots with ankle support, not shoes or sandals. The path has loose stone and steep sections. Carry trekking poles if you have them; many stalls near the path rent them.
- Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
- Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
- Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
