Plan 01

1 day in North Goa

  1. 01

Day 1: Beaches, forts and Old Goa

Start at Calangute or Candolim beach in the morning, walk the shore and have breakfast at a beachside shack. Visit Fort Aguada on the peninsula for views over the coastline, roughly 30–45 minutes from Calangute by scooter or car. Return for a long lunch and rest through the hottest hours. In the late afternoon, drive to Old Goa to see the Basilica of Bom Jesus and the Se Cathedral as the light softens and crowds thin, roughly 1 hour from Calangute. Finish with dinner in Panaji or a smaller beach shack back on the coast.

Plan 02

2 days in North Goa

  1. 01

Day 1: Calangute, Baga and Fort Aguada

Spend the morning at Calangute or Baga beach, swim and have breakfast at a beachside café. Visit Fort Aguada before lunch for views and a walk around the old lighthouse. Have a long rest and lunch. In the late afternoon, browse Arpora Night Market if you're visiting in season (November to March), then have dinner at a beach shack with fresh fish.

  2. 02

Day 2: Old Goa and quiet beaches

Drive early to Old Goa to see the Basilica of Bom Jesus, the Se Cathedral and the Church of St. Cajetan without crowds. Spend an hour in the museums or simply sit in the calm courtyards. After lunch in Panaji or a nearby restaurant, drive north to Mandrem or Morjim for a quieter afternoon, wander the beach and have a sunset drink. Return to your main beach base for dinner.

Plan 03

3 days in North Goa

  1. 01

Day 1: The central beaches and forts

Spend the morning at Candolim or Calangute beach, have breakfast and swim. Visit Fort Aguada by late morning, explore the lighthouse and walls. Return for lunch and a midday rest. In the late afternoon, drive to nearby Chapora Fort, a smaller and quieter ruin with views inland to the paddy fields. Have dinner at a beach shack or in Vagator village.

  2. 02

Day 2: Old Goa and Christian heritage

Drive early to Old Goa and spend the morning at the Basilica of Bom Jesus, the Se Cathedral and the Church of St. Cajetan, roughly 1 hour from central North Goa. Walk the quiet streets and sit in the courtyards. After lunch, visit the Church of St. Francis of Assisi and the small museums if your energy allows. Return to your beach base and spend the evening at Arpora Night Market or a sunset walk on a quiet beach.

  3. 03

Day 3: Spice, temples and northern villages

Visit a spice plantation near Panaji or in the inland villages for a tour and lunch. Return to the coast and spend the afternoon at Arambol or Ashvem beach, quieter than the southern beaches. See the Tiracol Fort by late afternoon if you have a scooter or car, a scenic 45-minute drive north. Have dinner in a village restaurant or beach shack, or drive back to a more central location for the night.

Pacing

Make the plan work for everyone

  • Stay in Candolim, Mandrem or Morjim rather than Calangute or Baga; they are calmer, less crowded and closer to heritage sites.
  • Hire a car and driver for the whole day rather than a scooter. It keeps you cool, avoids long walks and gives you a place to rest between sights.
  • Visit Old Goa early in the morning (by 9 a.m.) to see the churches and courtyards without crowds and heat. The Basilica and cathedrals are level and cool inside.
  • Fort Aguada and Chapora can be walked at a slow pace with rest stops. Both have benches with views. Skip if mobility is very limited; the views are better from a drive-by.
  • Beaches here are flat and safe, ideal for long walks. The black sand can be hot in afternoon; wear shoes or go early or late.
  • Restaurants and cafés on the beaches are casual and safe; freshly caught fish is a highlight. Avoid peak lunch hours (1–2 p.m.) when it's crowded.
