- No railway. The nearest train is at Leh. Some travellers take the train to Leh from Delhi (roughly 32 hours) or other cities; flights are faster.
- Getting around
- A private car and driver, hired in Leh, is the only practical option. The road from Leh to Pangong Tso (about 150 kilometres one way) involves high passes (over 5,000 metres), steep descents and very limited fuel stops. Autos and app cabs do not ply this route. Booking a driver-guide package through a tour operator is often easier and safer.

For parents and senior travellers
Easy transfers to and in Pangong Tso
- Stay at Leh and do Pangong Tso as a day trip or 2-day trip if your health makes altitude concerning. The comfort and medical access are worth the drive.
- Hire a private car with a driver you trust, not a shared taxi. A good driver will adjust speed, make stops, and handle emergencies calmly. Agree on the route and rest stops in advance.
- Carry a fully stocked first-aid kit, any prescription medicines in full supply, and a copy of your medical summary. The nearest hospital is in Leh, 4–5 hours away.
- Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
- Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
- Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
