Chang La Pass
The 5,360-metre pass on the Leh-Pangong highway, one of the highest points most travellers will ever stand on. There is a small shrine, a tea stall and a research station, and not much reason to stay long.

- No ticket. The pass sits inside the same Inner Line Permit zone as Pangong Tso, so carry your permit and ID with the rest of your paperwork for the journey.

Pangong Tso Lakeshore (Lukung & Spangmik)
The stretch of shoreline between Lukung, where the Leh road first meets the water, and Spangmik, a herding village a little further along the southern bank. This is where almost everyone actually stands to look at the lake.

Tangtse Village
A small village on the road between Chang La and Pangong Tso, once a halting point on the old Turkestan-Tibet trade route and now known chiefly for one of Ladakh's most important rock art sites.

Merak and Man Villages
Two small settlements further along Pangong Tso's southern shore than most day-trippers go, home to Changpa herding families rather than tourism businesses. Worth the extra distance if you want the lake without the crowd at the main viewpoints.
