For parents and senior travellers
Easy transfers to and in Sanchi
- The path uphill from the village to the stupa is a steady 15–20 minute walk with a moderate incline. Take a cycle-rickshaw or auto part of the way if the full walk tires you.
- Hire a guide when you arrive. They add enormously to understanding the carved scenes on the gateways, which are the site's real treasure.
- Sanchi has no major hospitals. If you have a medical concern, Bhopal is 45–60 minutes away by car and has full facilities.
- Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
- Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
- Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
