Udupi railway station, on the Konkan Railway's Kanyakumari–Mumbai corridor at Indrali about 4 km from the bus stand, has direct trains to Bengaluru, Mumbai and New Delhi.
How to reach Udupi by road
NH66 links Udupi to Mangalore and Goa along the coast, while NH169A runs inland towards Shivamogga; buses cover both routes.

For parents and senior travellers
Easy transfers to and in Udupi
- The town gets very hot from April to June. Carry water, wear light clothes, and plan an indoor rest during the hottest hours (12 p.m.–4 p.m.).
- Hire a car and driver for the day to move between the temple, Malpe, and other sights. Auto-rickshaws are cheap but can be crowded and uncomfortable for longer trips.
- Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
- Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
- Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
