Key hubs

Vrindavan airport and railway station

Nearest airport
Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, roughly 3–4 hours by road; Agra's airport is about 2.5–3 hours away
Railway station
Mathura Junction (MJ) is the nearest major station, roughly 40 minutes by road. A few local trains also serve Vrindavan directly, but are infrequent.
Getting around
Hire a car and driver for the day; most temples and ghats are within a small area and can be visited on foot, but stairs and crowds make a driver valuable for rest stops

How to reach Vrindavan by air

Agra Airport, about 71 km away, is the nearest with some scheduled flights; Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, about 150 km (3–4 hours) away, offers far wider connections. The newer Noida International Airport at Jewar, opened in 2026, may become a closer option as commercial flights ramp up.

How to reach Vrindavan by train

Mathura Junction, about 9 km (roughly 40 minutes) away, is the nearest major station; Vrindavan itself has two smaller stations, Vrindavan (on the Mathura–Vrindavan link) and Vrindavan Road (on the Agra–Delhi chord line), with infrequent local trains.

How to reach Vrindavan by road

Vrindavan sits just off NH44 (the Golden Quadrilateral), about 129 km from Delhi, 54 km from Agra and 9 km from Mathura; buses and taxis run all these routes.

Getting around Vrindavan

Most temples and ghats are within a small area and walkable, but battery-powered e-rickshaws and a car and driver are useful given the stairs, crowds and heat between stops.

For parents and senior travellers

Easy transfers to and in Vrindavan

  • Wear comfortable shoes that can be removed easily, and carry socks for temple floors, which can be cold or hot depending on the time of day. Many temples do not allow shoes inside, and some have steep stairs.
  • Hire a car and driver for the day, even if distances are short. This gives you a cool place to rest between temples and avoids the fatigue of walking and navigating narrow lanes.
  • Many hospitals are in Mathura rather than Vrindavan. Note the location of your nearest medical facility, and carry any regular medications in sufficient quantity.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
