For parents and senior travellers
Easy transfers to and in Bhubaneswar
- Carry water, a hat and sunscreen. Afternoons are very hot and humid from March to September; stay indoors during these hours if possible.
- The old city temples have uneven stone floors and occasional steps. Wear comfortable walking shoes and carry a stick if mobility is a concern. Brahmeswara and Ananta Vasudeva temples are more level than Lingaraj.
- Hire a car and driver for the full day to avoid long walks between temples and to have a cool place to rest. Autos and shared taxis can be unpredictable.
- Choose a hotel with a lift, good air-conditioning, and easy access for your car. Satya Nagar and Nayapalli areas are easier for seniors than the narrow lanes of the old city.
- Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
- Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
