Nearest airport: Bhubaneswar (Biju Patnaik International Airport, BBI) is roughly 70–80 kilometres away, about 1.5–2 hours by road, traffic dependent.
Railway station: Konark itself has no major railway station. Puri Junction is the closest, about 35 kilometres away (roughly 45–60 minutes by road). Bhubaneswar is the main hub for long-distance trains.
Getting around: A private car and driver is essential; there are few autos and the sights are scattered. Puri to Konark is a popular route, often done as a half-day trip from Puri with a hired car.

For parents and senior travellers

Bring a hat, water bottle and sunscreen. There is little shade on the temple grounds; rest under the few covered porticos or in your car.
The road from Puri to Konark is decent but can be bumpy in places. A car with good suspension and a driver who knows the route matters, especially for comfort.
Hospitals and pharmacies are in Puri, not Konark itself. Make sure your hotel knows where to find them, and carry any regular medications from home.
Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
